My vote is very much in favor of transcriptions, because they allow you to rediscover the original work anew. Listening to a transcription performed is like reading the score without looking at the notes. The Bach-Busoni transcriptions are well known, but there are others which are less frequently performed, like Max Reger's piano transcriptions of the Brandenburg Concertos and the Suites, both recorded by a German piano duo, that also performed two Mahler symphonies (6 and 7) and a Bruckner (3rd) symphony. May I suggest to Ms. Okashiro to consider more transcribing!
I find it difficult to compare the marvels that exist on your Mahler
transcription to existing interpretations by any other musician. The
blinding intensity of your vision and compelling blend of sound world and
architecture renders me completely speechless, satisfied and spiritually
nourished.
